Stop 1: Thursday, March 31st, 2005 @ 8:00pm
The Barking
Spider Tavern, Cleveland, OH
9am: I met up with Nicola, Jules, Elisa Korenne and tour manager Mike.
Touring in style... that's a big SUV with DVD players and a built-in navigational
system - yeeeeehaaa. We had a long but seemingly fast drive - some of
it was spent autographing undies - which are free with CD purchases throught
the tour!
This is a really cool bar. Really cool. There's dedicated crowd of locals
who all trust Mitch's music picks. It's nestled in the back behind another
bulding right in the middle of Case Western University. We had an attentive
audience (thank you for laughing at all my jokes!) - and, when Nicola
and I went around meeting people and offering autographed undies a man
who would only reveal himself as "Doc" offered to take his
off and sign them for us. We graciously declined. :-)
Stop 2: Friday, April 1st, 2005 @ 7:00 pm
The
Shadow Lounge, 5972 Baum Blvd, Pittsurgh, PA
We got there with some time to go for food- and were excited to try a
Korean bbq joint just around the corner, though a few of us swore never
to eat spicy food again before a show. Yikes.
Justin made us feel right at home - we played after amazing locals Abby
Ahmad and Heather
Kropf. We each played a short solo set and did all-ensemble version
of "Every Little Thing He Does" to close.
After us, the place was turning over into a DJ event...and we were running
off to:
Stop 3: Friday, April 1st, 2005 @ Midnight
University of Pittsburgh,
Friday Night Improv -Guests Pittsburgh, PA
Every Friday night they have comedy improv... and each week it's followed
by a special guest. This week it was Chicks with Guitars. It was renegade
- we each had only enough time to play one song, totally unplugged to
150+ students. I played the light-hearted dedication to Mr. Rogers, "Pretty
Good", and learned that it was more appropriate than I knew - apparently
Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood was filmed locally in Pittsburgh!
Stop 4: Saturday, April 2nd @ 8:00pm
Eclectic Etceteras,
Edinboro, PA
When we arrived it was snowy... but we didn't think too much of it. Owner
Renee welcomed us to this cafe/music store/book store/ performance venue...
which had posters throughout of a lot of familiar touring folk musicains.
Music by each of the Chicks with Guitars, along with compilations 1 and
2, is now on sale there.
We had attentive crowds.. and the snow kept falling. Nicola and bass-player
Jules even played on through a power-outage! We spent our second set playing
an in-the-round unplugged and by candlelight. Thaks to those who stayed
to the end!
Unexpected Delay: Sunday, April 3rd
The next morning, we woke to power outages at our hotel.,..and learned
that most of the town was out, too. We managed to find a supermarket with
some electricty and a cafe - after we got some coffee and gave time for
the local crews to move the truck that was stuck across both lanes of
the main road to the Interstate, we braved an unplowed onramp and eventually
made it back.... though it was a long journey.
